Some of the best experiences in my life have been spent with choirs. I love choir, and you should, too. But it’s hard to have fun in choir if you’re singing songs that go plunk or if you’re working with singers who don’t connect with the songs you’ve lovingly and painstakingly chosen. I’ve been there and done that, but I’ve also seen singers loving every minute of a rehearsal and loving the songs I’ve chosen.
I’ve also written or arranged songs for the various groups I’ve conducted, and I’ve found that my students usually really like those pieces (and not just to get extra Skittles®). So I’ve seen these pieces work well. Does that mean your choirs will like them? No, some of these songs might go plunk or be a far cry from what your choir needs, but hey, some of them might take off. I can’t give you any promises, but I can give you the chance to look through and listen to them.
